National Park
The World Heritage Tongariro National Park (Tongariro Crossing) to the east and the Whanganui National Park, to the West. National Park Village is located near the base of Mt Ruapehu, at the intersection of SH4 & SH47 on the volcanic plateau. The village has great views of Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings filiming locations) and Mt Ruapehu.
In the summer you will find every thing you need to get out and enjoy the Tongariro and Whanganui National Park from hiking, biking and kayaking. National Park Village has Tongariro Crossing from bed and breakfast, motel, apartments and budget backpackers - to treking supplies and hire. The Tongariro Crossing Transport leaves daily (weather permitting) from your accommodation for the Tongariro Crossing, known as the best one-day trek in New Zealand. There is a number of places to dine or have a quite drink after a fun filled day.
